SIUE Women’s Tennis: 2023–24 Season Signing Announced.
EDWARDSVILLE – Stefaniya Anikina has joined the SIUE women’s tennis team, according to head coach Adam Albertsen. January is when she’ll join the team.
“Coming off a strong autumn season, we have really liked the momentum our team is building,” Albertsen stated. “We will have another weapon and a stronger lineup in spring with the addition of a player like Stefaniya to the Cougar family. We can’t wait to have her join SIUE and put her to work straight away.”
Anikina, a freshman at SIUE from Public Municipal Institution High School #95, is a native of Karaganda, Kazakhstan. Anikina has an 8.75 Universal Tennis Rating and has been ranked as high as 28 in the country. Furthermore, Anikina advanced to the semifinals of the Kazakhstan 2022 Championships in both the singles and doubles categories.
From Stefaniya: “It was evident to me that the crew is a highly supportive group from our first conversation. I think I can fulfil my potential in both academics and athletics at SIUE because of the excellent education, friendly atmosphere, and beautiful campus. My family and I were searching for a school that offered this.
The Cougars’ season will begin again at UIS in Springfield, Illinois, on January 21.
