Detroit Lions make an essential hire to replace the departed executive.
The Detroit Lions have apparently identified a successor for Brandon Sosna, their former senior director of football administration, who was recruited by the Washington Commanders as senior vice president of football operations.
According to ESPN’s Seth Walder, the Lions will hire Charlie Adkins as their next senior director of football administration. Adkins formerly worked as the Arizona Cardinals’ manager of football analytics and research for five years.
As the name implies, Adkins, who spent seven years with Arizona in total, worked in analytics with the Cardinals and was a key member of general manager Monti Ossenfort’s NFL Draft war room.
Sosna’s work with the Lions included “strategic planning and management of the salary cap” as well as being the team’s “chief contract negotiator,” thus Adkins is expected to have those responsibilities as well.
The Cardinals and Lions have a history of hiring each other’s employees. After a long stint with the Cardinals, Detroit recruited Brett Fischer as director of player health and performance, while Arizona signed Dave Sears, the former Lions director of college scouting, as assistant general manager the same year.
