Man City to spend ‘enormous’ amount of money – Stefan Borson.
Manchester City and the Premier League are going to spend an “enormous” amount of money in their upcoming legal battle.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider neither party has spared any expense in terms of pursuing the case or defending it.
The Daily Mail reported on 4 September the Premier League could be left with a legal bill in the tens of millions for their case against Man City even if it comes out on top.
The English champions were dealt 115 charges by the governing body in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the financial fair play (FFP) rules over a nine-year period, with the hearing expected to begin soon and scheduled to last 10 weeks.
Man City allegations to increase legal fees
Borson expects the legal fees to be “extremely high” due to the complexity of the case and the seriousness of the allegations.
He told Football Insider: “I have always used the analogy, which I think now is proven to be a good one, from a cost and challenge perspective to compare it with a high court commercial case.
“That was exactly again as it was framed within the Everton and Premier League costs hearing.
“There is no question that a case of the complexity of the City case, if it was in the high court, that it would cost an enormous amount of money.
“It will be exactly the same here. The players are the same. The barristers, the solicitors and the work that’s going on is the same as it would be in the high court.
“When you look at the quality of their representation, both parties appear to have spared nothing in terms of pursuing the case or in defending it.
“I would expect the bills to be extremely high and for it cost many millions of pounds.
“There is no way around it, the scale of the allegations and the type of the allegations that the Premier League have made against City means that the trial of it will be extraordinarily expensive for both parties.”
