If you’ve paid any attention to Michigan football or listened to any Wolverine faithful this year, you’ve probably heard the same thing a more than few times: the Wolverines need a quarterback.
Barstool Sports founder and Michigan alumnus Dave Portnoy pledged up to $3 million for a top-10 quarterback from the transfer portal every year, and head coach Sherrone Moore has been very candid about the offense’s need to be more balanced in the air.

So what’s next for Michigan? The answer may not be in the transfer portal, as we’ve seen schools like Florida State, Oregon, and Wisconsin find out this season
Here’s Carter Smith, the News-Press Offensive Player of the Year, the reigning Gatorade Florida Player of the Year, and a senior Wolverine commit.
Smith is the definition of a dual-threat quarterback. He’s thrown for 1,009 yards and 11 touchdowns with one interception and has rushed for 435 yards and 10 touchdowns on 68 carries for the 4-2 Vikings. He’s capable of improving Michigan’s offense on day one of his arrival, but the national discussion around the Wolverines quarterback issues rarely seems to mention him.
Honestly, I really don’t pay attention,” he said. “It’s the least of my worries. I just want to play football, win games. That’s all that really matters to me.”
In addition to Smith, Michigan landed junior Cocoa Quarterback Brady Hart, who threw for 527 yards and four touchdowns in a 54-51 loss to Venice. Smith says there isn’t too much to look into from his perspective, and he isn’t going to flip very easily.
“I don’t really read into it, don’t really care, I’m just out playing, you know,” he said. “I’m not going anywhere. It would take a hell of a lot to get me to go somewhere else.”
Quinn, a 6-foot-1 freshman at First Baptist, just earned the QB1 gig in the last few weeks. He has great accuracy and arm strength and is improving his pocket presence and game sense week by week. He finished the loss with 188 passing yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-27 completions.
He holds nine offers as of Week 6, with Ole Miss, Nebraska, and Missouri sitting at the forefront of his recruitment process. But Quinn has plenty of time to grow and reel in more offers as time goes on, something that he’s looking forward to.
No change on Jayden Petit’s thought process
Petit, a four-star junior wideout who visited UCF last weekend, has made clear for months that he’s taking his time to take visits and make a decision on his commitment. Nothing has changed on that front, and there’s still no clear leader to land him.
Petit reeled in five catches for 108 yards and one touchdown in the loss.
