Alabama in panic mode after narrow win over South Carolina.

A week after losing to Vanderbilt, the Crimson Tide nearly lost another as a three-touchdown favorite.

Alabama survived against upset-minded South Carolina, 27-25, to keep College Football Playoff hopes alive Saturday following last week’s loss to Vanderbilt. The Crimson Tide nearly had another colossal letdown before a pair of touchdowns from Jalen Milroe gave the Crimson Tide the lead for good and avoided a catastrophic home loss under first-year coach Kalen DeBoer.

The Gamecocks, who haven’t won at Bryant Denny since 2004, had a chance to tie the game on a two-point conversion after Nyck Harbor’s touchdown catch with 43 seconds left, but did not convert. South Carolina then recovered the onside kick, but could not score. The Gamecocks erased a two-touchdown deficit in the first half with 19 unanswered points prior to Milroe’s heroics. South Carolina sacked Milroe four times, recorded two interceptions and had a chance to take the lead with six minutes left by Alex Herrera’s go-ahead field goal try sailed wide right.

For the preseason pick to be in the SEC title conversation and get to the playoff, Alabama has holes and many media members tried to assess panic mode in Tuscaloosa after the Crimson Tide were lucky to get out of Week 7 with a win.

Here’s some of the reaction following Alabama’s close win over the Gamecock.
