Ezekiel Elliott spent the first seven years of his………….

Reportedly, a former Patriots wide receiver is keen to join the Cowboys.

After playing for the Patriots for one season, this running back is reportedly interested in returning to his old stomping grounds.

Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys “have mutual interest” in reuniting, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. A contract has yet to be agreed upon.

Elliott spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Cowboys, where he was consistently one of the NFL’s top running backs. The 28-year-old was released by the team that drafted him in March last year and joined New England on a one-year deal in mid-August.

Despite playing all 17 games for the Patriots last season, Elliott produced career lows across the board. His 642 rushing yards, 33 first downs, and three touchdowns are just a few disappointing statistics compared to previous years.

However, Elliott’s 51 receptions for 313 yards made him a more valuable asset in the passing game.

Although the player didn’t experience much success in New England, Elliott did express an interest in re-signing with the Patriots when asked about the possibility in December.

“It’s definitely been a good experience,” Elliott said. “I love playing with Rhamondre (Stevenson), I love this team, I love the city. So, I think I would be open to it.” Following fellow running back Stevenson’s season-ending ankle injury on Dec. 3, Elliott saw an increased workload in the final five games of the season. He started every game between Weeks 14-18 and scored all three of his touchdowns in that span.

Considering Stevenson’s impending return in 2024 and New England’s addition of Antonio Gibson this offseason, both Elliott and the Patriots may feel it’s best to part ways.

A reunion in Dallas for Elliott would make sense for both sides. Running back Tony Pollard quickly left the Cowboys for the Tennessee Titans during the NFL’s legal tampering period. Elliott may be interested in filling that void on a team he’s familiar with in hopes of returning to his previous form on the field.
