Seahawks don’t place Uchenna Nwosu on injured reserve (yet).
Perhaps one of the biggest storylines regarding the Seattle Seahawks’ initial 53-man roster is what didn’t happen.
With news coming on Monday that star pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu was likely to miss 2-6 weeks with an MCL sprain, expectation was that Nwosu would have a stint on injured reserve. Under the new rules, two players can be placed on IR with a return designation without having to make the initial regular season roster, so the Seahawks could’ve done that on Tuesday.
This isn’t to say Nwosu won’t just end up on IR on Wednesday or at any point in the next few days, but it’s certainly notable that he wasn’t put on an injury list. It may be an indicator that, while Nwosu could miss some games, there’s a greater likelihood he’ll be back within the IR window (which would’ve resulted in missing the first four regular season games) than not.
Incidentally, backup tight end Pharaoh Brown wasn’t put on an IR with his foot injury, and cornerback Artie Burns was released without an injury designation. Burns was carted off from Saturday’s preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns, but it looks like the worst has been avoided. It’s more than likely the Seahawks would eventually re-sign him right away, as he’s a vested veteran who’s not subject to waivers.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is scheduled to speak to the media on Thursday, so we should get some clarity on the injury front very soon. Or, to use Chenna’s social media post…
