Jets up coming QB Plans Revealed?
The New York Jets suffered their fourth straight loss on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, officially eliminating them from playoff contention. Entering the season with hopes to make the postseason for the first time since 2010, the Jets failed to live up to those expectations. A massive reason for New York’s failed season has been the play of veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Coming off a torn Achilles, the 41-year-old has not looked like the same player he was on the Green Bay Packers. Through 14 weeks, Rodgers has averaged a career-low 88.9 passer rating. He threw for over 300 yards for the first time all season on Sunday in the loss.
Despite his poor play, Rodgers has voiced his desire to stay with the Jets if he decides to return in 2025. However, based on a new report, New York may have already made their decision on the quarterback regardless of his plans.
Prior to the loss against Miami, insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Jets could draft a quarterback whether Rodgers returns to the team or not.
The Jets are currently set to hold the seventh overall pick in 2025, meaning some of the top quarterback prospects will likely already be off the board in the first few picks by the time they make their selection. The Jets could still trade up in the first round, especially since some of the teams picking earlier, namely the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Carolina Panthers, may not be selecting a quarterback with their top pick. Regardless, a decision like that likely won’t be made until the Jets find their new general manager and head coach.
