BREAKING NEWS! HAIDEN DEEGAN PENALIZED AT 2024 BIRMINGHAM SUPERCROSS
Unlike most riders, Haiden Deegan is not scared of controversy. He enjoys stirring the pot, doing all he can to gain an edge over his competitors. In one sense, it makes for great drama and exciting racing. However, everyone has their moral compass, and sometimes Deegan’s feisty attitude can rub people the wrong way. Coming into Birmingham, Haiden was dealing with a bruised tailbone after his huge crash in qualifying at the Daytona Supercross, where he was ejected from his bike.
Starting the day off, Haiden was off his normal pace in qualifying, securing the 10th-best time, going into the night show. Haiden came out of the gate hot in his Heat race and was poised to take the holeshot, but was taken out from behind when Seth Hammaker made a mistake and ran into him going in the first turn. Their two bikes got tangled together and once the bikes were finally untangled, Haiden threw Seth’s bike on the ground. After the race, Haiden walked over to the Pro Circuit rig and tried to have words with Seth, but the Pro Circuit crew defused the situation and told him to go away. Surprisingly, we didn’t see any fireworks between the two riders in the 250 LCQ, Seth took the win and Haiden cruised to finish second.
At the beginning of the Main Event, Haiden was far behind the pace when Slade Varola and Daxton Bennick joined forces and left the track, Haiden Deegan trailing behind. After being ejected from the track, Haiden chose to put on the gas, roosted the officials and medics on the infield (not intentionally, of course), and then leaped back onto the track rather than peacefully rejoining it. Although they weren’t docked positions, Bennick and Varola didn’t accelerate as quickly as Deegan, which was surprising.
