The Kansas City Chiefs secured a first-round bye and home field advantage in the playoffs after clinching the No. 1 seed in the AFC. For Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the extra week off was perfectly timed, as his wife, Brittany Mahomes, gave birth to the couple’s third child on Sunday, Jan. 12, a daughter named Golden Raye. While the three-time Super Bowl MVP might’ve been understandably distracted over wild card weekend amid Golden’s birth, Mahomes kept an eye on the Chiefs’ upcoming opponent. “It was cool that football was on TV when I was in the hospital, so I got to watch a little bit,” Mahomes told reporters. “Brittany was kind enough to let us watch football as we had our second daughter
Mahomes and Brittany, 29, are already parents to two-year-old Patrick “Bronze” Lavon and three-year-old Sterling Skye. “I’m good with three for right now,” Mahomes said in response to a question about whether they would consider having a fourth child. “We’ll see down the line maybe, but my goal was always three.”
For now, Mahomes is focused on making NFL history by winning a Super Bowl three-peat, a journey that starts with getting a win over Houston. Considering the Texans-Chiefs game takes place just six days after Brittany gave birth, fans are wondering if the Kansas City Current co-owner will make it to Arrowhead Stadium for what will be Mahomes’ 19th career postseason start.
Brittany posted a video of Golden Raye’s nursery area on Instagram two days prior to the game, but it was shot prior to her giving birth.
While Brittany is a fixture at Chiefs games, home and away, she skipped Kansas City’s Week 17 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which took place on Christmas Day. She also stayed home for the Chiefs regular season finale against the Denver Broncos, during which Mahomes and the bulk of the team’s starters rested. Everyone would understand if Brittany watched the Texans-Chiefs game from home considering she just gave birth. At the same time, if anyone could power through to be at Arrowhead Stadium for a playoff game, it’s Brittany. Mahomes is only one win away from tying Joe Montana for the second most playoff wins all-time by a starting quarterback
