One of the most prominent talents from the Alabama Crimson Tide’s 2025 recruiting class has chosen a new home after a number of players decommitted. Ty Haywood, a five-star offensive tackle, declared his intention to sign with Michigan at his National Signing Day ceremony on Wednesday. The product of Denton, Texas, was the final unsigned five-star prospect in ESPN’s rankings going into signing day. He is now headed to Ann Arbor.
Haywood held offers from several powerhouse programs like Florida State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M but ultimately decided to commit to Alabama last July. His commitment was a massive one for the Crimson Tide’s 2025 class and vaulted them up to No. 1 in On3 Sports’ rankings at the time. However, the alarm bells began to ring for Alabama when Haywood opted to not sign during the Early Signing Period in December. That led to speculation that he would take his talents elsewhere and that was ultimately confirmed when he officially decommitted on January
Michigan was immediately cited as the favorite to land him and he made it official on Wednesday. The five-star has now joined the same class as elite quarterback prospect Bryce Underwood, whom he will be tasked with protecting from Big Ten defenders in the years to come.
Haywood was the Tide’s highest-rated decommit in the 2025 cycle, so losing him was a major setback. They did, however, succeed in signing two four-star offensive tackles, Mal Waldrep of Phenix City, Alabama, and Jackson Lloyd of Carmel, California. With the signing of Arkel Anugwom from Ball State, they also increased the depth of tackles in the transfer portal.
