Patriots’ silver pants will be back for their home opener versus the Seahawks.
The outfit that New England wore most recently, in October 2023, will return.
The New England Patriots’ home opener on Sunday is going to be a throwback party, especially with members of the 2014 Super Bowl squad in town. On the pitch, the players will also dress the role. The Patriots will not match the Seattle Seahawks in their customary navy-on-navy uniform on Sunday as a nod to the dynasty-era clubs of the 2000s and 2010s. Rather, the silver pants that were a part of the home uniform in the days of the dynasty will return. Prior to officially announcing the return on Sunday morning, the Patriots had already made social media references to it earlier in the week.
The Patriots dusting off their silver pants is nothing new. In fact, the game against the Seahawks — who were on the losing side in the Super Bowl 10 years ago — will be the third such throwback contest.
The first came in 2022, when the Patriots lost 33-14 to the Chicago Bears. The following year, they had more luck: in Week 7 of the 2023 season, they celebrated a 29-25 come-from-behind victory over the visiting Buffalo Bills.
The Patriots wore silver pants as part of their outfit ever since a drastic overhaul in the 1990s that saw the franchise move its primary color scheme away from the traditional red, white and blue. While there were some minor redesigns along the way, the bottom’s silver color remained the same for almost three decades.
But the Patriots decided to change things up in 2020 and went all-navy instead of silver. Since since, that outfit has served as the team’s main look, with the occasional throwback tossed in as well. One more of those days is Sunday. The Patriots vs. Seahawks game is scheduled to begin at Gillette Stadium at 1 p.m. ET.
