Tristan Wirfs, a left tackle/right tackle for the Buccaneers and an All-World selection, has admittedly weighed about 360 pounds. If the Bucs don’t make him richer, he will make $21 million this season. As a fifth-year player in the prime of his career, Joe is certain that Wirfs wants to play for Tampa for a minimum of ten seasons. Will that, though, be it?
Joe at last listened to Wirfs’ most recent appearance on the Washed Up Walkons podcast. There, he acknowledged that playing double-digit seasons at his size is taxing on the joints. Interestingly, Wirfs also mentioned that Todd Bowles had a conversation with the Bucs regarding the methods in which players depart the game. Bowles clarified that “very few people get to walk away under their own accord,” according to Wirfs. Wirfs claimed that he found resonance in the lesson.
When asked on the broadcast how long he wanted to pursue his career, Wirfs responded he wasn’t sure. He admitted to considering the fact that offensive linemen are less durable than players in other positions. When Wirfs is sweating the most during a Tampa summer, his weight will drop to 352 pounds
Referring to conversations he’s had with the Bucs training staff, Wirfs stated, “It’s a lot [of weight] to be walking around on your joints on your knees and ankles and everything.” “You have to decide on a difficult course of action either way,” Wirfs stated. “At that point [in the NFL playing years], you start to wonder, ‘Should I continue playing? Is it time for me to go on and move on from this, or do I want it to finish differently?
