When Alabama football plays Georgia in the SEC championship game on Saturday, it could not have its starting running back. At a press conference on Thursday, Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban did not seem too hopeful about Jase McClellan’s condition.
Saban claims that McClellan hasn’t been giving it his all this week.
Saban stated, “He hasn’t been able to do a lot.” “We’ll watch his performance today.”
McClellan played in Saturday’s Iron Bowl thriller at Auburn. However, he was spotted on crutches leaving the field with a boot on.
Saban said after the game that the issue was a foot injury McClellan has dealt with throughout the season and reaggravated against the Tigers.
“We’d have to say he’s probably questionable for the game at this point but it’s probably too early to tell,” Saban said Thursday.
McClellan leads Alabama in rushing yards this season with 803, along with six touchdowns. The group behind him includes Roydell Williams, who has 497 yards and four touchdowns.
Other running backs who could see more action include Jam Miller, Justice Haynes and Richard Young. Saban has praised the depth of the running backs room this season.
No. 8 Alabama faces No. 1 Georgia in the conference title game this week, with a chance at making the College Football Playoff on the line. The game is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. CT Saturday in Atlanta and will be aired on CBS.
