FC Cincinnati sign defender named Miles Robinson.
FC Cincinnati announced today that centre back Miles Robinson has signed a contract that runs through the 2024 season, with a club option for 2025. Robinson, 26, joins FC Cincinnati with seven years of Major League Soccer experience and 27 caps with the US Men’s National Team.
“We are overjoyed that Miles decided to carry on with his career in Cincinnati,” FC Cincinnati General Manager Chris Albright stated. “He is a dynamic, elite defender with a wealth of MLS and international experience under his belt. He brings a great deal of personality and character to our locker room, and we are happy to have him join FC Cincinnati.
After playing for Atlanta United for his entire seven-year Major League Soccer career, Robinson has moved to Cincinnati. In the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, he was chosen with the second overall pick—the first in club history. He made 123 MLS regular season appearances (111 starts) with Atlanta, with two assists and three goals.
The 6-foot-2 defender joined the Five Stripes on April 7, 2018, and he made 12 appearances and three starts in his debut season with Atlanta, including two appearances and a start during the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs. Atlanta went on to win the 2018 MLS Cup.
In 2021, Robinson made 25 starts, was selected to his first MLS All-Star Team, and won his second MLS Best XI award in his career. In addition, he was a finalist for the 2021 MLS Defender of the Year award and, with a minimum of 100 duels, placed second in the league in duel success rate (66.83 percent).
Robinson made his MLS debut in 26 of his 27 games in 2023, tallying a career-high two goals and dishing out one assist. Additionally, he participated and started all three of Atlanta’s MLS Cup Playoff games in 2023.
At the international level, Robinson has earned 27 caps for the USMNT, scoring three goals and adding one assist since his senior debut on September 7, 2019, against Mexico. The Arlington, Massachusetts native started and played every minute for the Stars and Stripes in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, when the U.S. won the tournament, culminated by a 1-0 win over Mexico in the final where Robinson scored the game-winning goal in the 117th minute at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. He was named to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup Best XI.
Following the Gold Cup, Robinson started in 11 of the 14 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers spanning the end of 2021 and beginning of 2022, helping guide the Americans to qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He was nominated for the 2021 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year.
Robinson competed for the United States at the U-20 and U-23 levels during his young career. Robinson, a member of the 2017 Generation adidas class, started all two years at Syracuse University, where he won the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year award from the Atlantic Coast Conference. In his two years at Syracuse, Robinson scored eight goals and was named to the All-ACC First Team, All-ACC Tournament Team, and ACC Freshman Team.
