LeBron James’ future with the Los Angeles Lakers was in doubt following his convincing defeat by the Denver Nuggets in the NBA playoffs for the second consecutive season. James would not say if it was his final game for the illustrious team.
James has a player option for the 2024–25 NBA season. It is anticipated that he will choose to opt out of his contract with the Lakers and become a free agent, with the choice to either sign a lucrative long-term contract with Los Angeles or test NBA free agency.
James typically uses his influence to shape a team’s roster and coaching staff in similar circumstances, and it appears he is doing so with the Lakers once more.
The current favourite to take over as the team’s next head coach is JJ Redick, co-host of James’ podcast, while the Lakers are open to selecting Bronny James in the forthcoming 2024 NBA Draft.
Even though James recently appeared at a Cleveland Cavaliers playoff game, Skip Bayless, who has a long-standing grudge against James, doesn’t think the player is going anywhere, according to “The Skip Bayless Show.”
At this point in time, there’s no telling what will happen with the latest James saga in Los Angeles, but all signs point to him staying with the Lakers, primarily if the team acquires another star, hires Redick, and drafts his son.
The Lakers will work hard over the next few weeks and months in order to convince the four-time NBA champion to stay committed to the team and potentially play the last years of his career in Los Angeles.
