We Now Know the Sound of the Badass Cover of “Turbo Lover” by Judas Priest.
There’s a few undeniable truths in metal: double bass is always cool, you must always pick someone up if they fall in the pit, and Judas Priest‘s 1986 banger “Turbo Lover” is unassailable. But what if some heavy metal badasses — and Two Minutes to Late Night‘s Gwarsenio Hall (aka Jordan Olds) — were to try to improve upon that song? Could it be possible?
I’m happy to tell you, dear reader, that yes — it’s possible to improve upon the Turbo classic. But only if you have former The Acacia Strain drummer Kevin Boutot, Undeath guitarist Kyle Beam, Frozen Soul bassist Sam Mobley, and Jynx/Tales From The Internet guitarist Justin Whang as the cover’s pulsating soul. Toss in Olds’ talents behind the mic and you have what might possibly be the most badass version of “Turbo Lover” ever.
Released earlier today, it was part of Two Minutes To Late Night‘s ongoing bedroom cover series. In fact, this was their 66th song uploaded to YouTube, meaning they just have 600 more to complete the set. Get crackin’, folks!
In all seriousness, the song was already awesome, but to hear Olds’ arrangement performed by so many awesome performers all at once just elevates the whole thing. This isn’t the first time they nailed a song, but this definitely took the cake for me, as a life long Priest fan.
Don’t forget to subscribe to Two Minutes to Late Night and have a look at the cover below. They do awesome things like this, and maybe someday they’ll stage their heavy metal variety event again, but at a different location.
