Casey Stoner, the 26-year-old Australian MotoGP star, has become a father for the first time. His wife Adriana gave birth to a baby girl named Alessandra Maria Stoner in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The baby was born on Thursday evening, February 16, weighing 2.8kg. According to a spokesperson for Stoner’s Honda team, “Mum and baby are perfect with no complications.”
The couple is based near Lausanne to fit in with Stoner’s European MotoGP timetable. Stoner is scheduled to start pre-season testing at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia soon and hopes to defend the championship he won last year.
Stoner and his wife Adriana discovered they were expecting a baby in August last year. At the time, Stoner was scheduled to visit Japan for a MotoGP race but had second thoughts due to the country’s nuclear risk following the Fukushima I power plant fallout.
Stoner said he “felt very strongly” about not going to Japan, especially after finding out Adriana was pregnant. He prioritized his family’s safety and well-being, citing it was “very tough” to make that decision.
The Japan race was originally scheduled for April but was postponed until October. Stoner finished third in the race, a testament to his dedication and focus despite the personal news.
Stoner has had an illustrious career, winning world championships in 2007 and 2011. He was also named ‘Young Australian of the Year’ in 2008. As he embarks on this new chapter with his family, fans wish him continued success on and off the track.
