New York Mets’ Legendary Player and Broadcaster Responds Hilariously to Legendary Seinfeld Clip
Friday was a special day for fans of the legendary television programme “Seinfeld” and the New York Mets, and Mets hero Keith Hernandez made sure to join in.
“Boyfriend” was one of Seinfeld’s first truly legendary episodes, aired in 1992. It starred Hernandez, who met Jerry in a local gym while working out.
One of the best parts in the show is when Newman and Kramer explain why they dislike Hernandez, which is because of an error he made on June 14, 1987. Well, with Friday being June 14, this marks the 37th anniversary of that game.
Here is the original scene – and Hernandez having a little fun with it.
In addition to the scenes concerning Hernandez’s game, Jerry’s “Kennedy-assassination”-style caricature of Newman and Kramer spitting on Hernandez as he headed down the tunnel became iconic.
“Seinfeld” had a storied nine-year run and became one of the most successful television sitcoms of all time, but this Season 3 episode was undoubtedly one of the first outstanding ones. It was actually a two-part show, and Hernandez appeared in both. He also appears in the series’ last episode.
Hernandez spent 17 seasons with the Cardinals, Mets, and Cleveland Indians. He had 162 career home runs, was a five-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger, 11-time Gold Glover, batting champion, and MVP. He also won two World Series championships.
